Serve
Volunteer — Crossroads at Park Place
Lend a Hand
Volunteers are the backbone of Crossroads. We open three mornings a week, and the work is not the same on each one. Shifts are 2–3 hours. No regular commitment required — come when you can.
Inside the building
Tuesdays & Thursdays, 7:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Every service we offer runs on volunteer hands. In one five-hour morning 125–150 people come through for a meal, a shower, laundry, clothing, or a hygiene kit — and each of those is someone standing at a station, doing it. When a station is short, the line behind it stops.
In 2025, volunteers on these two mornings served 21,256 meals, ran 4,718 showers and washed 3,540 loads of laundry.

Out in the parking lot
Wednesdays, 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM
Wednesday is a different job. A Houston Food Bank delivery has to be unloaded, packed into boxes and handed out in a two-and-a-half-hour window, outdoors, in Houston weather. It is the shortest shift of the week and the most physical one — this is the morning where an extra pair of hands is felt immediately.
The Food Fair sends groceries home with more than 600 families every month, and it is open to anyone in the neighborhood.
Unloading & Setup
Meet the Houston Food Bank delivery, unload it, and set up the tables before the line forms.
Ability to lift 30 lbsPacking Boxes
Fill and stack the grocery boxes so they are ready to hand out when we open.
Distribution
Hand boxes to families and help carry them out to the car or the sidewalk.
Ability to lift 30 lbsLine & Traffic
Greet families, keep the line and the cars moving safely, and keep count of who we served.
