What You Can Get
What to Expect on Tuesdays & Thursdays
People often start lining up before we open, while it's still dark. There is a queue to get into the building.
Once you're inside, a volunteer checks you in and looks up your name. That's how we keep track of what you've received.
From there it's up to you. Some people eat first. Some go straight for clothing, shoes, or a hygiene kit. Some hand off their clothes for laundry. Some get in line for a shower. Everything is first-come, first-served.
Our volunteers are here to help — not to judge. You are welcome exactly as you are.
Common Questions
- Do I need an appointment?
- No. Walk in during our open hours. Everything is first-come, first-served.
- How much does it cost?
- Nothing. Every service is free.
- Do I need an ID?
- No. You do not need an ID to get a meal, a shower, laundry, or clothing. At intake a volunteer just takes your name.
- What days are you open?
- Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7:00 AM – 12:00 PM, for all services. Wednesdays, 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM, for the Community Food Fair — groceries only, in the parking lot.
- What happens on Wednesdays?
- Wednesdays are food only. We hand out boxes of groceries in the parking lot, 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM, and anyone in the neighborhood can come — you do not have to be a regular. There are no meals, showers, laundry, clothing, or haircuts on Wednesdays. For those, come Tuesday or Thursday.
- Do I have to belong to the church?
- No. Our doors are open to everyone, without judgment or condition.
- Can I bring my dog?
- No. Dogs are not allowed on the church property.
- Where do I leave my bike or cart?
- In the parking lot. Bikes, carts, and belongings are not allowed in the church's inner courtyard.
- Can I smoke?
- Only in the designated smoking areas.
- How does laundry work?
- Hand your clothes to a volunteer when you arrive and you get them back the same day. There is a cut-off time for drop-off, so come early — call 713-252-3604 if you need to check it.
- Can I get mail here?
- Yes. We provide a mailing address you can use. Ask a volunteer when you arrive.
- Is there WiFi or a computer I can use?
- No. We do not have public WiFi, and there are no computers for guests to use. If you need to get online, call 211 — they can point you to the nearest place that offers it.
- Can I get a letter proving I am homeless?
- Yes. We issue homeless verification letters — the document you need to apply for a state ID, benefits, or housing. Ask a volunteer when you arrive.
- What are the rules about the verification letter?
- We issue one letter per person, and only to the person it names — we can't hand it to someone else on your behalf. Keep it somewhere safe, because we can't replace it if it is lost or stolen. If it has gotten too old and the agency won't accept it, bring it back and we will reissue it with a current date.
- What time should I get there?
- We open at 7:00 AM on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and people often line up before then. Arriving early gives you more time for a shower and laundry before we close.
